Man City: Tottenham ready to sell Pedro Porro for cut-price fee as relegation financial hit revealed

Manchester City could secure the signing of Pedro Porro for significantly less than his £80million valuation as Tottenham’s financial crisis deepens ahead of potential relegation.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Pep Guardiola and and the City recruitment team have outlined the Spanish star as a key target to strengthen their hand at right-back this summer, with Spurs facing a serious threat of relegation from the Premier League.

The Lilywhites are outside the relegation zone by just one point ahead of Sunday’s fixtures, and several of their key players are already emerging as targets for clubs elsewhere amid their ongoing plight.

Manchester City’s transfer plans have seen them identify the right-back position as a priority area to be strengthened for next term, and they could be about to get their wish over Porro.

£260m hit to force Tottenham’s hand over Pedro Porro sale

The Premier League’s elite are facing increasingly big losses at the moment, with City recently recording a loss of £292million across their City Football Group ownership model for the 2024-25 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that their summer spending is not likely to be affected by those losses, which is sure to have set the alarm bells ringing down in North London.

Tottenham’s own financial situation is far more precarious at the moment, with former City financial advisor Stefan Borson recently telling Football Insider that relegation would see them lose at least £200m in sponsorship deals almost instantly.

The loss of broadcast revenue, and potential hits to matchday income that would come with relegation to the Championship would leave Spurs needing to raise funds, and that could affect the price tags for any stars who leave the club.

Porro has been a key player for the Lilywhites in recent years, and as a result, they valued him at the £80m mark last summer, according to Spurs expert John Wenham, via Tottenham News.

However, given the losses that could soon be coming their way, they would surely be keen to accept a reduced offer from City, rather than continuing to hold out for the defensive valuation that they set last time around.

Pedro Porro move to finish Matheus Nunes at Man City

City have operated with Matheus Nunes as a makeshift option in the right-back role for much of this season, but they have already decided that they want to bring in a specialist ahead of next term.

The Citizens have identified Porro as somebody who could come in and improve their backline, and that move could potentially put the writing on the wall for the Portuguese if it went through.

Nunes is now 27 and will want to be playing regularly as he enters the prime years of his career, and it looks increasingly likely that he wouldn’t get that at the Etihad Stadium if Porro came through the door.

City are keen to continue regenerating their group after they began the process last summer, and Nunes could be one of the next men to be shown the door.
