Man City transfers: Insider shares ‘massive’ new signings reveal

Man City are planning a “massive” overhaul of their squad in the summer transfer window as a result of their recent drop in form.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that many of the current squad are now considered past their best.

Brown explained that concerns have emerged about a number of the current stars, who could make way for incoming deals at the end of the season.

The likes of Kyle Walker, 34, Ilkay Gundogan, 34, Kevin de Bruyne, 33, Ederson, 31, and Bernardo Silva, 30, are believed to need replacing come next summer’s window.

Football Insider revealed on 30 November that City have huge funds available to spend ahead of the January transfer window to bring fresh faces into their squad.

However, it has now been said that the squad is in need of a more dramatic rebuild and while money will be spent in January, there is a growing need for an overall refresh.

This, Brown claims, will see a “massive” budget handed to Pep Guardiola, while there will be a number of difficult decisions to make about key players and their roles.

Man City plan squad overhaul in ‘massive’ new twist

This comes as a result of City having failed to win in seven games across all competitions prior to their 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on 4 December.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the squad is beginning to become stale with key players ageing.

There are so many players in that team who will need replacing,” he told Football Insider.

“De Bruyne is coming to the end of his time, Rodri’s injury is a concern, Kyle Walker looks past his best, Ederson is getting on, Gundogan is ageing, even Bernardo Silva too.

“Those players, who have been the base for City’s team for years and years now, are all getting on.

“And because they’ve all been there for so long, things can start to get a bit stale.

“That’s a problem, because they’ll all need replacing, and that will take massive amounts of money.

“I expect, given the issues they’ve had so far this season, that rebuild will start in the summer because not only do they need fresh faces, but they need to let some go as well.

“It’s not as easy as just bringing in new players, they’re in need of a real overhaul there.”
