‘Man City turn attention to signing Kyle Walker replacement after release clause twist’

Man City are among a number of clubs plotting a move to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries after Kyle Walker left to join Burnley.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 29-year-old’s agent has made clubs aware of his availability.

The Netherlands international is widely believed to have a £21million release clause in his deal at the San Siro which can be activated by clubs outside of Serie A.

Football Insider revealed in May that Liverpool turned down the chance to sign Dumfries and instead landed a deal for his international teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

City, meanwhile, are determined to strengthen at right-back after addressing other areas of his squad as Pep Guardiola is still keen to add to his squad.

However, Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Newcastle are doing everything to keep Tino Livramento, who had been among City’s top targets, at the club.

Man City eye Denzel Dumfries among right-back targets

Football Insider exclusively revealed in February that Man City will prioritise signing a right-back as they put preparations in place for Walker’s departure.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that City have now been alerted to Dumfries’ availability and could soon make a move.

City are interested in signing Denzel Dumfries,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s a player who has been on their radar for a while with scouts keeping an eye on him, and they’ve decided he fits the profile they’re looking for.

“Guardiola likes to have expansive full-backs who aren’t afraid to get forward and he fits that bill.

“Now they’ve been made aware of this release clause which would make him relatively cheap.

“His agent has been speaking to clubs and making everybody aware of his availability.

“Especially after Walker left, it’s a position they feel they need to address, so he is somebody they’re considering alongside other targets.”

Ederson update emerges amid Saudi Pro League interest

After Walker moved away from the Etihad to join Burnley, a number of other long-serving players have also been linked with leaving City this summer.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 4 July that City are prepared to accept offers for Ederson amid growing interest from the Saudi Pro League.

After he entered the final year of his contract, the Brazil international is widely expected to walk away from Man City, either this summer or on a free next year.

Football Insider revealed in April that Ederson is attracting “massive” interest from Saudi Arabia and has been considering his options ahead of the summer window.
