Man City to make ‘behind-closed-doors’ arrangements after Erling Haaland news – Campbell

Kevin Campbell has allayed fears Man City striker Erling Haaland will not be at his best when the Premier League resumes after the World Cup.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton goalscorer said “behind-closed-door friendlies” will keep the 22-year-old sharp during the international break.

Haaland, who missed City’s 1-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday due to injury, will not be present at the World Cup after Norway failed to qualify.

As quoted by Manchester Evening News (24 October), Guardiola revealed the centre-forward “will be in Marbella or Norway” during the domestic break.

The City boss hopes Haaland will “not eat much and drink much” while away from the club.

When asked by Football Insider if there should be concern over the sharpness of players not attending the World Cup, Campbell said: “There is an argument.

“There is a complete break though, so the players who do not go will need games. There will be behind-closed-door friendlies being played at training grounds. The clubs will be organising those to keep players’ sharpness.

“Obviously when the Premier League resumes they will not be at their very best these players. It will be about how they kick on from there.

“Haaland will be off, he will probably go on holiday and it will be great for him to have a break. But he will come back and get back intro training and playing friendlies before the Premier League kicks off again.

“It is going to be across the board. The training grounds are going to be busy.”
