Man City worried by key development after £112m payout – Kieran Maguire
Man City will be “concerned” about a drop in Uefa coefficient payments after they climbed to the top of the 10-year standings.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that clubs such as City are set to be paid less by Uefa based on their coefficient ranking.
City are currently top of the Uefa 10-year coefficient standings after winning the Champions League in the 2022-23 season to cap off their historic treble.
As reported by Swiss Ramble, City pocketed £112million in prize money from their European success last season.
However, the coefficient payments are set to decrease from 2024-25 onwards as the Champions League changes to the Swiss-style model.
Man City concerned about drop in Uefa coefficient payout
Maguire believes that City will back themselves to still perform well in Europe to earn prize money but that they will be concerned about the drop in coefficient payments.
“I think Man City will be concerned about what’s happening at Uefa in terms of the 10-year coefficient payments, which currently represent 30 percent of the distribution in the Champions League.
“It looks as if that’s going to decrease which is bad news for City who currently top the 10-year table.
“It means that those clubs that have done well historically in the Champions League will have to perform better in the season in order to match their previous payments.

“That shouldn’t necessarily be to the detriment of Manchester City because they’ve qualified for the knockout phases practically every year for the last five or six years.
“So I’m sure they will choose to back themselves.“
