Man City’s financial power laid bare as Donald Trump makes stunning Sheikh Mansour claim
Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has pumped a significant amount of money into the club since securing his takeover at the Etihad Stadium.
The Abu Dhabi United Group, which is owned by Mansour – the vice president of the UAE – purchased Man City in 2008 for around £200million.
Man City’s value has increased dramatically over the years, with various analysts now valuing the club at more than £4billion.
Pep Guardiola’s side form part of the City Football Group (CFG), which was created in 2013 to build a multi-club organisation, with 12 more teams added to the portfolio alongside the Manchester giants.
CFG’s collection of clubs includes New York City FC, Melbourne City, Yokohama F. Marinos, Girona, Mumbai City, Lommel SK, Troyes, Palermo, Bahia, Sichuan Jiuniu, Montevideo City Torque and Club Bolivar.

How much is Man City owner Sheikh Mansour worth?
While it is widely known Mansour is a wealthy man, that was highlighted this week in his encounter with US president Donald Trump.
The duo crossed paths at the Gaza peace summit in Egypt on Monday (13 October), where they exchanged a handshake and posed for photos in front of the media.
During the encounter, Trump said: “A lot of cash, unlimited cash. And he’s a good man, too.”
Mansour is estimated to be worth around £17bn, while his family’s wealth is understood to be well in excess of £200bn.
Man City spent more than £180m on new signings in the recent summer transfer window, taking their overall spending under Mansour to around £2.5bn over the past 17 years.
How much of Man City does Sheikh Mansour own?
The CFG’s ownership structure has changed slightly in recent years, but it hasn’t impacted day-to-day operations at the Etihad.
Silicon Valley-based private equity firm Silver Lake bought a 10 per cent stake in the CFG in 2019 before later increasing its shareholding to more than 18 per cent.
However, Silver Lake saw its shares in Man City’s ownership group reduce to around 17 per cent last year following a £420m injection from Mansour’s vehicle, Newton Investment and Development.
It means Mansour now owns more than 80 per cent of the CFG as he continues to provide funding at the Etihad.

Man City generate the highest revenue in the Premier League, with their latest published accounts for 2023-24 revealing their turnover stood at £715m.
That accounts for the vast majority of the CFG’s overall revenue, which was £933m across the same period.
