Man United accelerate ‘dream’ striker signing after Liam Delap collapse

Viktor Gyokeres is the “dream” striker target at Man United after their move for first-choice forward Liam Delap collapsed, sources have told Football Insider.

Delap, 22, is close to joining rivals Chelsea for £30million – his release clause figure at relegated Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, Matheus Cunha has finalised his move from Wolves to Man United but will feature as a wide attacking midfielder in Ruben Amorim’s signing.

It is Amorim’s dream to reunite with Gyokeres, 26, after he completed another free-scoring season with Sporting CP in Portugal.

Gyokeres deal ‘difficult to do’ at Man United

However, finances make that deal difficult to do with United failing to qualify for the Champions League and struggling to offload their unwanted stars.

Gyokeres hit 54 goals and notched 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions for Sporting this term as they lifted the Primeira Liga title and Portuguese Cup.

He worked closely with Amorim in Lisbon after arriving from Coventry in 2023.

Arsenal Gyokeres

Football Insider had revealed last month (20 May) that Man United are ready to sell Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund to make way for top striker target Delap.

One of the two forwards, both of whom underperformed in the 2024-25 campaign, could yet depart to raise much-needed funds.

Gyokeres has a contract at Sporting running until June 2027 and is widely reported to have a release clause of around £83million.

Man United ready to green light Fernandes deal

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (3 June) that Man United will allow Bruno Fernandes to depart if he wants to make the move to Saudi giants Al-Hilal.

Fernandes, 30, has emerged as Al-Hilal’s principal target after Man United failed to secure European qualification for the 2025-26 campaign.

Sources say United will be willing to facilitate the move if the player himself decides it would be for the best.
