Man United and Liverpool stars react to Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s Rangers message

Neraysho Kasanwirjo gained the attention of several Premier League stars after returning to the pitch for Rangers for the first time in six months.

The 23-year-old defender played 11 minutes as Barry Ferguson‘s side put four unanswered goals past Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday, 11 May, albeit nothing was riding on the Scottish Premiership clash.

It has been a frustrating campaign for everyone involved with the Glasgow giants, especially in domestic competitions, but the Gers have really shone in the Europa League.

Kasanwirjo, who Rangers fans want to sign permanently this summer, has missed out on much of the campaign after suffering what was thought to be a season-ending knee injury in November.

He could represent just the beginning of 49ers Enterprises‘ anticipated takeover at Ibrox, with just a couple of matches remaining until the summer transfer window swings open.

Taking to Instagram (12 May), Kasanwirjo wrote: “Missed this more than anything,” returning to the Ibrox for the first time since the 1-0 win over Hearts in November 2024.

As well as gaining interest from teammates Danilo and Jack Butland, Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber, Man United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Liverpool‘s Ryan Gravenberch all liked the post.

Rangers prepare for summer of change at Ibrox

Football Insider verdict

It is completely unclear what the future holds at Ibrox, with new owners expected to be in charge once the new season kicks off, and that remains the same for Ferguson’s future as Rangers’ interim manager.

The Light Blues’ run in Europe has also drawn a lot of attention to Scotland, with many of the more talented players now being linked with big-money exits, much to the sadness of fans.

Nico Raskin is one of the big names expected to leave Rangers, having impressed enough to earn his international debut with Belgium, and Vaclav Cerny is unlikely to make his move permanent.

The Union Bears have been calling for drastic change in the boardroom, and that could certainly emerge this summer, but the biggest changes are likely to come on the pitch and in the dugout.

It is a new, exciting era about to begin at Ibrox, with plenty of chances expected ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, but sadly for Kasanwirjo, his return from injury has come just too late for a run of games in the team.
