Man United and Wrexham to reach ‘agreement’ over big-money deal
Man United and Wrexham will both receive a financial boost if they arrange a pre-season match against each other.
That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who has exclusively told Football Insider that he believes the two clubs could net up to £5million each from the game.
Man United and Wrexham are in talks about a pre-season friendly in Scandinavia ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Red Devils played Leeds in Scandinavia in July, whilst Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Mac, would continue to further their worldwide exposure.

Wrexham ‘to benefit more’ than Man United
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley believes both clubs will want to fulfil the financial opportunities from the fixture.
“It will be a boost for both clubs for sure,” Plumley said.
“It’s really tricky to get exact numbers on this, but if you look back to kind of recent events, in a similar way, ballpark figures, you know, when Man United have played preseason games in Asia as an example, some of the figures there have suggested that those trips could be worth a couple of millions of pounds.
“Probably nothing upward of £5million, but low single digit millions, which is still a good amount of money for one-off fixtures.
“It depends on how the rights of the broadcasting is sold. You know, you would expect some of that to be in house. You’d expect big commercial leveraging over the top, maximising the financial angle, of course, with the two clubs and their ownership.
“So no doubt it will be financially lucrative. I think probably, if you look at it proportionally, Wrexham stands to benefit more just given the two clubs. It’ll be a boost to Manchester United’s finances, but it’ll be a bigger boost to Wrexham’s.”

Wrexham agree £18m deal
Wrexham will take a non-repayable grant from the Welsh government to put towards rebuilding their Kop stand at The Racecourse Ground.
The £18m deal has proved controversial, and the Red Dragons announced a new minority investor just days later.
A pre-season friendly against Man United would further strengthen their financial position, as the club look to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
