‘Man United are amazing’ as another big-name signing close after terms agreed

Man United have been hailed for still being able to attract star signings despite the major struggles they have endured recently.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, former Tottenham and Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson described the Red Devils’ pulling power as “amazing”.

The 2024/25 campaign was a disastrous one for Ruben Amorim‘s side, as they finished 15th in the Premier League table with just 42 points from 38 games.

After Man United were beaten by Tottenham in the Europa League final, they also ended the season trophyless, and having failed to qualify for any form of European football for the 2025/26 campaign.

All of that underlined the need for the club to strengthen their squad in this summer’s transfer window, a process which has already begun.

Bryan Mbeumo keen to follow Matheus Cunha to Old Trafford

Man United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves as their first addition of the summer, and it seems they are not stopping there.

Last month, Football Insider revealed that the Red Devils are rivalling Arsenal and Newcastle for the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

It has since emerged that the Brentford attacker favours a move to Man United, even though they cannot offer Champions League like those other two sides, who enjoyed much stronger seasons.

Football Insider has learned that United are confident of finalising a deal for Mbuemo after already agreeing personal terms even though the Londoners value him at £60m.

That has left Robinson stunned by the way that the Old Trafford outfit are able to convince players to join them, even when they are in such a challenging situation.

Amazing, isn’t it, the size of the club, Manchester United.” the former England international told Football Insider.

“You know the problems that they’ve got, and you know the well documented underperformance in the league last year, the pull that they’ve got because the size and stature of the club, everyone talks about the problems at board level, the recruitment.

“No European football for only the second time in a number of years. Yet there’s such a huge draw, and everybody wants to be a part of the turnaround of Manchester United.”

Man United signings to put pressure on Ruben Amorim

In some ways, the pressure has been eased on Amorim since his appointment at Old Trafford back in November, by the quality of his squad.

It has been abundantly clear that many of the players available to him at Man United are not good enough to meet the club’s ambitions.

But with the signings of the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo, the ability within this team will increase considerably, especially if certain departures create openings for other new additions as well.

That in turn will increase the expectation on Amorim to deliver success at Man United. If he fails to do that questions will start to be asked of his future, given he didn’t always cover himself in glory this season.
