‘Man United backed to completed shock Aaron Ramsdale switch amid Rangers links’

Manchester United have been urged to complete a surprise move for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Southampton are happy to let Ramsdale leave this summer after their painful relegation back to the Championship.

The goalkeeper only joined the Saints last summer for around £25million from Arsenal, after impressing in his spell at the Gunners.

With the World Cup a year away, Ramsdale wants to keep playing at the highest level to give him the best chance of making the England squad meaning a move away from St Mary’s is paramount for him.

Martin wants Ramsdale reunion

Rangers are the latest team to be linked with the goalkeeper after Galatasaray also expressed interest in the 27-year-old.

Ramsdale would be linking back up with Russel Martin at Rangers, the manager who signed him last summer for Southampton.

The Gers require a new goalkeeper amid Jack Butland’s poor form for the club last season.

And talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein believes more clubs could make Ramsdale their number one as he claimed his club Manchester United should make a shock move.

Goldstein said: “I would honestly have Aaron Ramsdale over Onana [at Manchester United], Spurs I think he is better than Vicario, Chelsea are crying out for a goalkeeper, West Ham and Newcastle.”

Pundit Darren Bent agreed with Goldstein’s assessment: “I like Rambo, good goalkeeper and a little bit unfortunate, the Arsenal situation was painful.

“He came in and he was exceptional that first season, and if you remember some of the saves he made for Arsenal, I think he’s a top quality goalkeeper.”

“I still think he can play in the Premier League week in week out.”

Ramsdale has decision to make over next destination

Football Insider verdict

Ruben Amorim is looking at signing a goalkeeper this summer amid Andre Onana’s unconvincing performances.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is linked with a move to Old Trafford, but Ramsdale’s impressive shot stopping and fine performances at Arsenal shouldn’t be discounted.

Amorim dropped Onana on occasions for Altay Bayindir, but the Turkey international was also an unconvincing performer in-between the sticks.

A move to Rangers is more likely for Ramsdale, but despite the club’s recent investment could his high wages put the Scottish club off?

A move to Glasgow would spell the end of Butland’s time at the club and potentially his career as a number one.

Galatasaray can offer Ramsdale Champions League football and the Turkish giants also need a goalkeeper after Fernando Muslera left the club after 14 years service.

Ramsdale has plenty of interest and this could be a transfer saga that rumbles on all summer and is maybe the key to determining whether he can impress Thomas Tuchel enough to make his World Cup squad.
