Man United brutally trolled by Domino’s Pizza amid Bryan Mbeumo saga

Manchester United fans have endured plenty of stick through their protracted chase of Bryan Mbeumo, but Domino’s have taken things to a whole new level.

The Red Devils have been pushing to sign the Brentford star all summer following a Premier League season in which he registered 20 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances.

Naturally, that sort of form has seen the Cameroon international linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium, with Man United and Spurs most prominently mentioned.

Tottenham’s signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham effectively cleared a path for United to sign Mbeumo, if they can match Brentford’s asking price.

Domino’s fire shots on Man United over Mbeumo move

That is proving easier said than done, with United’s third bid of £65million plus £5m add-ons (BBC, 17 July) the third they’ve lodged this summer.

Despite already signing Matheus Cunha, United’s need for another forward is dire after registering just 44 goals and slumping to 15th in the Premier League last season — while the futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are up in the air.

But that desperation has left the Red Devils open to mockery not just from rival supporters but, apparently, the UK’s largest pizza chain.

“We’ve delivered 752599483 pizzas since United started trying to sign Mbeumo,” Domino’s brutally posted on their UK X feed on Thursday.

It’ll come as no surprise that Domino’s post drew a reaction, with even popular fan channel The United Stand — who have 2.7m followers on X — responding saying they’d ‘always preferred Papa Johns and Pizza Hut’.

Andre Onana unlikely to leave Man United

While United will continue their push to sign Mbeumo, it looks unlikely that Andre Onana will leave the club this summer.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper signed from Inter Milan for an initial £44m fee in the summer of 2023. However, he’s completely failed to repay that substantial outlay, with his time at Old Trafford so far littered with high-profile errors.

Emi Martinez is one name rumoured as a possible replacement for Onana this summer. But a move for such a highly-regarded goalkeeper would only come following the departure of Onana.

According to former Premier League chief Keith Wyness — who served as CEO of Everton and Aston Villa  and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs — the chances of Onana finding a move are slim.

“There’s been a lot of noise about it, but I actually expect Onana to stay at Man United. I think they’ve been tested in the market and as with many of their players, they’re seeing that they would have to take a pretty big loss,” Wyness told Football Insider.

When you look back over, again, this brings into view, and it’s not necessarily Ratcliffe, but it does bring into view the really bad buying strategy United have had for probably five or six years now. They’re buying at the top of the market with really big wage packages, and it makes it very, very hard to offload players.

Onana is another example of that. So I don’t think he’ll go. I think he’s going to stay and try and fight for his position. I don’t know what Amorim’s view on him is. I think that with a pre-season under Amorim, it may well instill confidence.

“He’s got a lot to prove. I think underneath there’s a keeper there somewhere, and I think he may be worth another try for a season.

“United would be selling at too big of a loss for them to get rid of him. They may end up having to stick with what they’ve done in terms of previous mistakes, in terms of losses that they’ve suffered to sell players.”
