‘Man United could agree £50m goalkeeper signing’ – Stefan Borson
Manchester United have a decision to make over the future of Andre Onana after he’s endured a challenging season at Old Trafford.
The Cameroon international was left out of the squad for the trip to Newcastle United on 13 April, where Ruben Amorim’s side suffered a 4-1 defeat with Altay Bayindir between the sticks.
Onana was recalled to the starting lineup for the games against Lyon and Wolves, but he failed to keep a clean sheet in either match after conceding five goals.
The 29-year-old, who moved to Old Trafford for £47.2million from Inter Milan in 2023, has kept just 10 clean sheets this season, having conceded 61 goals in 45 appearances.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Man United would likely have to spend around £50million if they were to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
Former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Bart Verbruggen will be the next United goalkeeper following his performances for Brighton.
The 22-year-old, who made the move to the Amex Stadium for £16.3million from Anderlecht in 2023, has kept eight clean sheets in 35 appearances this season.
United currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, but they are through to the semi-finals of the Europa League following their victory over Lyon.

Man United could have greater spending power after stunning twist
Borson insisted United’s spending power will become clearer at the end of this season.
He told Football Insider: “The bigger issue is they’ve got to find a new goalkeeper, which is really difficult and really expensive now these days, and quite a few teams are looking.
“It could be another £50million to sign a goalkeeper. So, regardless of whatever they have to do from a profit perspective, that’s £50million out of their budget for the season.
“If they don’t qualify for the Champions League, it’s another big issue. At the end of the season, we’re going to know a lot more about everybody’s plans and likely ability to spend, meet PSR and Uefa.
“It’s all going to become a lot clearer when we see that Champions League and the rest of the European qualification actually because we’re now talking about a situation where we could have 10 teams in European competition.
“Half the league might be in European competition. I think there’s only Everton, West Ham and Wolves plus the relegated teams that are not in contention for any European place.
“It’s just an incredible situation.”

Man United could agree Rasmus Hojlund deal
Football Insider revealed on 15 April United could cash in on striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer as they plan to sign an elite forward.
The 22-year-old is attracting interest in Serie A, where he made his name with Atalanta.
It is believed a number nine will be the priority for Amorim this summer as he looks to put his own stamp on the squad.
