‘Man United could agree £50m+ sale after Ruben Amorim transfer reveal’
Manchester United are facing the realistic possibility of not having European football next season following their dismal campaign.
Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League table heading into the final six games of the season.
Their only remaining hope of claiming silverware is in the Europa League, where a place in next season’s Champions League is on offer to the winner.
Man United drew 2-2 in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Lyon, with the second leg taking place at Old Trafford on Thursday (17 April).
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider United could face a £125million swing in revenue if they fail to qualify for Europe, as a Champions League spot could be worth up to £100million next season.
That would come as a major blow to the Manchester giants after they have already admitted they are facing profit and sustainability (PSR) issues this season.
Old Trafford chiefs sent a letter to fan groups in January warning them the club are at risk of breaking the PSR rules, with top-flight sides only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.
United posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million in 2023-24, but they recorded a net loss of £113.2million.

Man United could sell 10 players
United are a club that sets out to qualify for the Champions League every season, and they build their cost base around that.
Failing to qualify for the competition would also see the club deducted £10million by Adidas, with the kit manufacturer including a non-Champions League clause in their £90million-a-year deal.
However, the biggest impact will be on United’s capabilities in the transfer market as they look to improve their squad this summer.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday (16 April), Amorim admitted the budget could be lower next season without Champions League football.
“I think it’s more about the budget,” said the Portuguese manager. “I think that is important when you are planning the next season. Champions League can change everything.
“If you have Champions League, you know that you have a different budget to try to put a better team for next season. But this team, with new players, will need time to work, so I think it’s something that we’ll discover next year, hopefully.”
If United don’t have Champions League football next season, what can they do to improve their budget? The only real option is to sell players.
Football Insider revealed on 15 April United could let 10 stars leave this summer, with several players facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
There has been plenty of speculation around the futures of academy products Kobbie Mainoo, 19, and Alejandro Garnacho, 20, in recent months.
Stats | Mainoo | Garnacho |
Appearances (Starts) | 27 (19) | 49 (30) |
Goals | 1 | 10 |
Assists | 1 | 8 |
Yellow Cards | 7 | 2 |
The duo were both linked with a move away in January given the club’s PSR issues, with their potential sales worth a pure profit.
They would likely command a fee in excess of £50million and could provide a significant boost to United’s spending power if they miss out on Champions League qualification this season.

Man United could agree Rasmus Hojlund deal
Football Insider revealed on 15 April United could cash in on Rasmus Hojlund, 22, this summer as they look to raise money to sign an elite forward.
The Denmark international is attracting interest from Serie A clubs, having failed to impress since making his £72million move from Atalanta in August 2023.
Hojlund has registered just eight goals in 43 appearances this season, with Bruno Fernandes leading the scoring charts at Old Trafford with 16 strikes.
