‘Man United could pay Casemiro £5m to leave after huge new blow’
Man United face off against Tottenham in the Europa League final in a game which will prove transformative for the victors’ financial situation.
However, the Star (3 May) has reported that Casemiro’s weekly wage will rocket 25% to around £500,000 if they win on Wednesday (21 May).
That will come as a huge blow to Man United, who have employed a range of cost-cutting measures to return the club to profitability.
The 33-year-old has just over 12 months remaining on his deal but securing a move for the midfielder could save United up to £26million if his wage is boosted.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed Casemiro could be paid to leave the club when the transfer window opens.
‘Man United will have to contribute’ to get Casemiro out, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested a bonus of £5million could see the 33-year-old look for a move elsewhere, if he can secure a long-term contract at a new club.
Casemiro was named by controversial co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this year as one of six United players “not good enough or overpaid”.
But Wyness insisted the five-time Champions League winner will deserve a golden handshake if the Red Devils can secure victory in Bilbao.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If they do win, he’s going to be at £500,000-a-week – and that’s a big number.
“It does mean that Man United are going to have to contribute, I would think, if he is to leave the club.
“If they win and get into the Champions League, that’s worth £70million. If they paid him £5million of that figure to move on, then he’d probably accept that.
“That’s if he can get a good wage elsewhere on a longer-term contract.
“Given that he’s been instrumental in this Europa League run, he’s been one of the key elements – he probably deserves something like that.
“It’s better for him, better for Man United if he leaves at the end of the season.
“But I think they’ll have to share some of that success if they do win.”

Man United put duo up for sale this summer
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Man United are ready to sell Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund to make way for top striker target Liam Delap.
The Ipswich Town star, 22, is set to arrive at Old Trafford in a £30million deal with United in pole position to secure his signature ahead of Chelsea and Everton.
Meanwhile, Matheus Cunha is set to join Man United from Wolves but will play in a wide role under Ruben Amorim.
