‘Man United face huge transfer problem after new fail… this is a real issue’

Man United may be closing in on a second marquee signing of the summer but it has been suggested they could run into a “real issue” later this summer.

The Red Devils are in the middle of a squad rebuild, after they finished a lowly 15th in the Premier League last season, picking up just 42 points.

Ruben Amorim has already secured his first signing of the window though, bringing in Matheus Cunha from Wolves after triggering his £62.5million release clause.

Meanwhile, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Bryan Mbeumo has chosen Man United over Newcastle, with the move expected to be completed imminently.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes United will run into issues later this window as a result of their early business.

‘Man United will struggle to sell players’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said that the early incomings at Old Trafford will reduce the Red Devils’ negotiating position when selling players, as other clubs know they are short on funds.

Man United are expected to sell a number of first-team stars this summer, after they missed out on the windfall that European competitions provide.

Wyness insists that trying to balance the books could become a “real issue” for the English giants.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s always that delicate chess game in a transfer window, and I’ve been on both sides of it.

Signalling your strength to the fans is fantastic and you love the press on those days.

“But it also means on the other end that it reduces your negotiating position in terms of the players that you’re trying to get out.

“Other clubs will now know that they’ve (Man United) made those statement signings and they’re on the hook for that money.

“This is where experience and knowledge come in with sporting directors and all these things should have been planned ahead.

“There should have been moves for where these players are going to go planned three, four, five, six months ago, but I don’t see that sort of planning being present.

“I will watch very carefully how United will handle the second phase to try and balance the books going forward. That’s going to be the real issue.

Man United plot move for Mateta

Meanwhile, Man United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract situation at Crystal Palace.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 27-year-old is on United’s list of striker targets this summer.

Palace are believed to have opened fresh talks with the Frenchman, whose current contract is set to expire in 2027, as he remains a crucial part of Oliver Glasner’s plans.
