‘Man United face new deadline in Bryan Mbeumo pursuit amid Brentford update’
It’s a transfer saga that has rattled on the entire summer so far, but now, Manchester United face a race against time to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo was among the best forwards in the Premier League last season, registering 20 goals and seven assists in 38 appearances to help the Bees finish 10th — only the second time they’ve finished in the top half of England’s highest level since World War 2.
Naturally, Mbeumo’s form has seen him linked with a move away from Brentford, with Manchester United and Tottenham most often mentioned.

Brentford only sanctioning one sale this summer
Tottenham now appear to have moved their interest on to Mbeumo’s forward partner at Brentford, Yoane Wissa.
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in June that new manager Thomas Frank wants to bring Wissa with him to North London following a campaign in which he notched 19 goals.
2024/25 Premier League stats | Bryan Mbeumo | Yoane Wissa |
Goals | 20 | 19 |
Shots on target | 41 | 43 |
Assists | 7 | 4 |
Chances created | 70 | 28 |
However, Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed on Sunday (13 July) that Brentford will only allow one of the forwards to leave this summer.
That means either Man United or Tottenham will end up missing out on a key target.

Man United need Mbeumo more than Spurs need Wissa
Football Insider verdict
The Red Devils appear to be closing in on Mbeumo and, to be honest, they need him more than Spurs need Wissa.
Frank can currently call upon Dominic Solanke in the No.9 position at his new club. Meanwhile, there is a host of versatile attackers who can operate through the middle, including Mathys Tel, Richarlison and new arrival Mohammed Kudus.
It means that as far as Frank is concerned, Tottenham are pretty well stocked in attacking areas of the pitc.
Man United, on the other hand, are desperately short of attacking options. The futures of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are all in doubt and even if they were to stay, each has underwhelmed for long periods at Old Trafford.
Mbeumo would represent a huge upgrade on the above if he were to arrive for Ruben Amorim, who will hope the club can move swiftly to get a deal over the line.
