Man United facing ‘disaster’ after shock twist – Stefan Borson

Manchester United would be facing a “disaster” if they were to be relegated from the Premier League following their poor first half of the season.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Man United would suffer a significant hit to their profit and loss.

United endured a miserable festive period after losing three games on the bounce to Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle United without scoring a single goal.

After the defeat against Newcastle, Ruben Amorim admitted it is a “possibility” his side could be drawn into a relegation battle this season.

But those fears were eased slightly following their spirited performance in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

United currently sit 13th in the Premier League, seven points above third-bottom Ipswich Town and 13 points behind fourth-place Chelsea after 20 games.

Man United could suffer ‘big hit’ commercially

Borson suggested the Manchester giants would take a “big hit” commercially if they were to suffer an unlikely relegation this season.

“It would be a disaster,” Borson told Football Insider.

“But if you look at the league table really, I don’t think it’s a credible scenario.

“Clearly, if it did happen, every element of their profit and loss is going to take a hit.

“It’s just a statement of the obvious that you are going to have issues charging what you charge in the Premier League.

“They would probably continue to fill the stadium if they were winning matches, so your matchday may stay at the same level.

“It’s obvious that they would take quite a big hit commercially, not just from Adidas and Snapdragon but from other areas as well.

“But I think the relegation story to me just seems like nonsense, just because it’s so unlikely to transpire.”
