‘Man United facing very serious issue’ after ‘going-bust’ bombshell
Man United have started the summer window strong with the £60million-plus signing of Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
That is despite missing out on Champions League football for next season – a big blow after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe claimed the club had been in danger of “going bust” earlier this year.
Bryan Mbeumo and now AC Milan star Mike Maignan are among the other high-profile stars linked with a potential Man United move this summer.
United have lost £370million over the last five years of confirmed accounts, with Premier League clubs only allowed to lose £105million in three years before incurring a Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Red Devils are not likely to be in PSR danger despite their continued spending and Ratcliffe’s claims.

Ratcliffe accused of ‘misleading’ Man United comments
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Ratcliffe’s “going bust” comments could be misleading – which may prove a “very serious issue” for the club in future.
‘Manchester United plc’ is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and trades under the ticker MANU.
Wyness suggested PSR is not the “biggest issue” for Ruben Amorim’s side.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
13 | Everton | 38 | 48 | -2 |
14 | West Ham | 38 | 43 | -16 |
15 | Man United | 38 | 42 | -10 |
16 | Wolves | 38 | 42 | -15 |
17 | Tottenham | 38 | 38 | -1 |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Look, in terms of PSR for Man United – they haven’t quite gone as far as Chelsea yet.
“They haven’t sold on the women’s team, or any land and hotels they own.
“Some of those things will give them the room, if needed. I don’t think PSR is the biggest issue for Man United.
“We’re in a very interesting place where Ratcliffe has said the club was about to go bust.
“And yet, on the New York Stock Exchange, it says they’ve got more than enough money to handle this.
“There is a question as to whether he’s been making misleading statements to the stock exchange. That’s a very serious issue, and it’s yet to be resolved.
“I haven’t seen a lot of questioning about that, but I think it will come up at some point.”

Man United ready to accept Fernandes offer on one condition
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (3 June) that Man United will allow Bruno Fernandes to depart if he wants to make the move to Saudi giants Al-Hilal.
Sources say United will be willing to facilitate the move if the player himself decides it would be for the best – but will not push him out of the club.
Fernandes, 30, has emerged as Al-Hilal’s principal target ahead of the Club World Cup later this month.
