Man United fans explode after Viktor Gyokeres deal agreed

Man United have been left furious with Ruben Amorim as fresh developments emerge over Viktor Gyokeres’ future.

Man United are in the market for a new striker this summer following an underwhelming campaign from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, with Ruben Amorim’s side lacking consistency in front of goal.

As revealed by Football Insider on 13 June, Gyokeres has been Man United’s dream target, with efforts ongoing behind the scenes to try and strike a deal for the Sporting Lisbon forward.

The Swedish striker was signed by Amorim in 2023 after his impressive spell at Coventry City, and he played a key role as Sporting went on to win Liga Portugal last season.

However, despite United’s interest, it quickly became apparent that Gyokeres would favour a move to Arsenal, while other targets such as Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins have also been explored.

Now, the latest update appears to have all but ended United’s pursuit of Gyokeres, leaving the club frustrated with how the saga has unfolded.

Arsenal agree terms with Viktor Gyokeres as talks progress

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 4 July that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Gyokeres, with his agent travelling to Lisbon for face-to-face talks with Sporting.

It now appears that the transfer is firmly heading in the right direction for the Gunners, as Fabrizio Romano reported on X on 6 July that Gyokeres has agreed terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal.

Romano added that the Swedish striker has “no intention” of considering other offers and only wants to proceed with a move to Arsenal, all but ending United’s hopes of bringing the prolific forward to Old Trafford.

It is understood Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta has pushed for Gyokeres as the preferred option ahead of Benjamin Sesko, with the club now advancing negotiations, leaving United to explore alternative targets.

Man United fans turn on Ruben Amorim after Gyokeres snub

The latest developments have not gone down well with United supporters, who have started to question manager Amorim’s ability to convince players to join the club.

It comes after a similar situation earlier this year when highly-rated youngster Geovany Quenda rejected the chance to reunite with Amorim, opting to join Chelsea instead.

The Gyokeres saga has reignited those frustrations among fans, who have been quick to voice their concerns online.

One supporter said: “Not sure how I feel about Amorim again, because not being able to convince Gyokeres to join you is a big red flag” while another added: “Bit of a red flag that neither Quenda nor Gyokeres wanted to join Amorim.”
