Man United fans explode as ‘disgrace’ West Ham VAR footage re-analysed
Man United fans have exploded after the decision to award West Ham a penalty in the dying minutes of their Premier League clash.
Erik ten Hag’s side fell to a frustrating 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium after goals from Crysencio Summerville and Casemiro, before Jarrod Bowen’s decisive spot-kick.
However, the penalty call by referee David Coote and VAR official Michael Oliver left the travelling supporters stunned and cost United the game.
Matthijs de Ligt’s knee made contact with Danny Ings during a challenge in the box resulting in a penalty, despite replays showing it was Ings running back to compete for the ball which caused the collision.
It was a story of missed chances for the Red Devils who struggled in front of goal, including a shocking miss from Diogo Dalot, in a frustrating display.
However, the supporters’ anger has been immediately aimed towards Coote and Oliver, with the match officials labelled “corrupt” as a result of the call.
Bowen ultimately converted the penalty and secured all three points for the hosts, earning them their third win of the season in the Premier League.
That moved the Hammers above United in the league, with Ten Hag’s side dropping to 14th place with three wins, two draws and four defeats from their opening nine games.
Man United fans can’t believe ” penalty was given v West Ham
Pressure is now expected to pile back onto the manager’s position, but the anger towards the referee will, for the time being, overshadow criticism of Ten Hag.
United have now won just one of their last eight games across all competitions, and are winless in five away games.
Following the game, supporters took to social media to express their anger at the officials for costing them a point on the road as they were labelled “atrocious” and “a disgrace”.
In other news, Man United are working on a deal to sign Alphonso Davies.
