Man United fans to fume at Robin van Persie reveal as Raheem Sterling joins Feyenoord

Robin van Persie is likely to have annoyed a large portion of the Man United fanbase after the latest update surrounding Raheem Sterling’s future.

The former Man City star has been in limbo since returning to Chelsea in the summer, having failed to impress under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, notching one goal and five assists in 28 games.

Sterling finally parted ways with Chelsea, with his contract being ripped up despite having 18 months remaining on his deal, leaving his future open to several opportunities.

While it was believed that he wanted to remain in London, Sterling has signed for Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where former Man United striker Van Persie is trying to grow his managerial CV.

The 31-year-old will ply his trade in the Eredivisie until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, adding another club to his career-long list of Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

He was a much-loved figure during his time at the Etihad Stadium, but as his performances declined significantly during his last couple of seasons, he was almost hounded out by the fans.

It has been a very difficult time for Sterling since then, with very few at Stamford Bridge convinced by the winger, especially given the amount of money he was on.

Now, he has been given a chance to show those back in England what he is still capable of, and Van Persie has played a huge role in drawing him away from the Premier League. That might not go down too well.

According to The Sun’s Jack Rosser (12 February), while Everton opened talks to sign the player, as well as various other clubs, it was chats with Van Persie that persuaded Sterling to make this move.

He is believed to have been key in the negotiations, and given his allegiances to the Red Devils, previously breaking Arsenal hearts in his playing career, the news might not be taken well by those at Old Trafford.

Much like if Neil Lennon were to do business with Rangers, Celtic supporters would be furious, but Van Persie has still made the decision to work with a player despised by Man United fans.

The fury will likely disappear quite quickly, especially with Feyenoord not even playing in Europe after being knocked out, but it will still be a controversial move from the club’s former centre-forward.
