Finance guru: Man United fans will be devastated’ as Ed Woodward return on cards

Man United supporters will be devastated to learn that Ed Woodward could soon return to Old Trafford to assist the sale of the club.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest developments behind the scenes at United.

The Glazer family have confined that they are seeking a buyer for the club in a deal that this site revealed last Tuesday (23 November) could be worth as much as £8billion.

The Daily Mail reported last Wednesday (24 November) that Woodward is in the frame to advise potential buyers.

The 51-year-old was deeply unpopular during his time as former executive vice-chairman at the club, with many viewing him as being more concerned with commercial performance than progress on the pitch.

His return would not go down well with the Old Trafford faithful, insists Plumley.

“The headline is not going to please United fans given their history,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“We know he has knowledge of the club and did very well commercially. Perhaps his knowledge of the football side of things was less impressive. That was the reason for friction with the fans.

“He will know a lot of potential buyers in America because he’s a former banker with JP Morgan. I think that’s the reason they are thinking about bringing him back.

“But the fallout from his time at the club means United fans were glad to see the back of him. Now, they will be devastated and think they don’t know what’s going on.”
