Man United finance news: Kieran Maguire shares official £80m Ratcliffe document
Kieran Maguire has issued an update after Man United owner Jim Ratcliffe purchased 100 shares in the club for £80million.
A Companies House submission published on Monday (13 January), backdated to 10 December, revealed £80million was paid into the Manchester giants for more just 100 shares.
The shares were issued by one of United’s parent companies, Red Football Limited [Companies House], to Ratcliffe, football finance expert Maguire has confirmed on X.
There was some debate following the shares being issued as to whether it was an £800,000 investment, or £80million, but Maguire said on X that the amount was for £80million from Ratcliffe.
The news comes as confirmation that Ratcliffe has fulfilled his pledge to invest an extra £80million in the new year, following an initial £158million commitment when INEOS took control of 27.7% of the shares in the club. [BBC Sport]
Man United now need to back Ruben Amorim in the January transfer window
Football Insider Verdict
The expected cash boost will be some good news at last, with United’s form under Ruben Amorim since he joined the club on 11 November unconvincing.
Victories over Manchester City in the Premier League and Arsenal in the FA Cup, have been highlights, however defeats to Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and Nottingham Forest have shown the issues within the squad.
Lingering questions remain over the future of Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have caused a level of uncertainty that any new manager would struggle to deal with.

Amorim is said to have initially asked to join the club in the summer, which would have given him the opportunity to see a total overhaul of the playing squad, instead, the Portuguese coach was asked by the club to sign mid-season.
A number of the players look uncomfortable in Amorim’s preferred formation of 3-4-2-1 and due to the squad not being equipped to play his style, players have been forced to play out of position.
Diogo Dalot has not look comfortable being played at right-wingback and Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have both struggled in the lone-striker role.
The manager and the fans will therefore hope the finances can be made available to strengthen in the short term.
