‘Man United handed major Viktor Gyokeres boost after huge breakthrough’: ‘Deal on’
Manchester United have heavy interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, and the Red Devils’ pursuit of the attacker has just taken a major twist.
United are in the middle of a big summer rebuild, after their worst ever Premier League season, in which they finished 15th with just 42 points.
The 20-time English champions also failed to win any major silverware, losing 1-0 to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
Despite a dismal seven months in charge, Amorim is expected to stay at Man United this summer, with the club ready to back the Portuguese manager rather than sacking him.

Man United get boost in move for Gyokeres
Back in April, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Man United felt the Gyokeres deal was all but confirmed, with the Red Devils confident that they would get their man.
Arsenal have also shown an interest in the Sporting Lisbon striker, and the Gunners have been plotting a move to try and hijack United’s deal.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side may now be out of the running for the attacker, with the North London club deciding to go down a different route.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenburg has revealed that there have been new discussions between RB Leipzig and Arsenal regarding the signing of Benjamin Sesko in the last few days.
Plettenburg added that the deal is now very much on, pointing towards the fact that the Gunners have chosen Sesko over Gyokeres.
Amorim can get the best out of Gyokeres
Football Insider Verdict
The news that Arsenal have entered advanced negotiations with Sesko is perfect for Man United, as it makes them frontrunners to land the signature of Gyokeres.
Last season, the 27-year-old scored 39 goals in his 33 league appearances in Portugal, picking up eight assists as well.
Games | Goals | Assists |
33 | 39 | 8 |
Amorim was actually the one to bring Gyokeres to the Portuguese capital, with the 39-year-old in charge of Sporting when the Swede made the move from Coventry in 2023.
The pair struck up a connection during their 14 months working together, and it is believed that they are still in contact to this day.
If Gyokeres does end up making the switch to Old Trafford, there is no one better than Amorim to get the best out of the forward and help him thrive in the Premier League.
