Finance guru: Man United have £235m-plus deal ‘lined up’ as buy-back agreement reached
Man United may well be able to find another more lucrative front-of-shirt sponsorship deal if they pay to exit their contract with TeamViewer.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about United’s failing relationship with the remote access platform.
The Red Devils signed a five-year deal worth £235million per year with TeamViewer ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

But the American company’s shareholders have been dissatisfied with the results of their association with United and with their sponsorship portfolio in sport in general.
As relayed by Sports Business last Friday (16 December), United have now agreed an option which will allow them to buy back the remainder of the sponsorship rights from TeamViewer.
The agreement has been framed as beneficial for both United and TeamViewer.

“It’s not something you see very often,” the Sheffield University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“This is symptomatic of where the relationship, which has never quite hit the heights that it was expected to, is at.
“There is some background in the sense that TeamViewer were linked to the Super League as well. But it’s not been a deal that has worked for either party over time.
“If TeamViewer are actively looking to get out and United have got another deal lined up that is as good if not better, it might not be the worst thing to terminate the deal.

“You might lose revenue there but you might also recoup more over the course of the next three years when they were due to be locked into the TeamViewer deal.
“It’s that risk-and-reward argument. The PR spin on this is interesting because these sorts of deals affect the share price.“
