Man United have been hit by another ‘huge’ transfer blow

Manchester United have just taken another huge financial hit as another one of their major mistakes has come back to bite them.

It has been a transfer window of change for Ruben Amorim’s side, with a number of failed signings biting the dust and being sold at a fraction of the price they were bought for.

Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Jadon Sancho have all departed Old Trafford, with Andre Onana expected to join Trabzonspor in the coming days.

Another confirmed exit was that of winger Antony, who joined Real Betis for a fee of around £21million.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that this is yet another huge hit Man United have had to take in order to clean out their squad.

Jim Ratcliffe wants to start a new era at Man United

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Jim Ratcliffe wants to start a new era at Man United, but the sale of Antony is not the only failure that the club has had to accept.

The Red Devils signed the Brazilian from Ajax back in the summer of 2022 for £82m, meaning that Amorim’s side have made a loss of over £60m on him.

Wyness added that the big mistakes United have made in the past are all coming home to roost now.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, that’s a huge hit, and Antony has not been the only one. There’s been hits all around, and if you’re going to clean house, then I’m afraid you’re going to have to take a hit.

“That’s the whole thing, and I think United realised that yes, they’re going to have to try and remake the whole club, the whole culture, everything else, and that’s going to be costly.

“They’ve made some very big mistakes in the past and they’re all coming home to roost, and they’re not the only club. Jim Ratcliffe wants to start this new era, and to start a new era, you’ve got to get rid of the old era, and that is costly with the sort of players they’ve got.”

Man United’s former midfielder set for new club

Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen is likely to join a new club soon having left Man United in July, sources have told Football Insider.

Eriksen has been training with Malmo in Sweden in a bid to keep up his fitness ahead of his next move as he remains keen to play at the highest level in Europe.

A number of Championship and Premier League clubs are believed to have been keeping an eye on his situation and are expected to act outside of the transfer window.

However, Eriksen turned down a move to Wrexham in July as he aims to continue his career in the top flight despite the Red Dragons’ ambitious plans for the future.
