‘Man United have made Ruben Amorim decision amid dressing room fall-out’

Ruben Amorim is under pressure to succeed after being given free rein to put a broom through the Manchester United dressing room.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said Amorim can’t complain that his judgement hasn’t been backed at Man United so far.

Amorim has already ostracised five Man United players from pre-season training after they all declared a desire to leave the club this summer, three of whom were sent out on loan by the Portuguese in January.

Marcus Rashford finally looks set to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona after Amorim deemed him surplus to requirements and stripped him of a squad number, and this expected to be the first of several exits.

Robinson told Football Insider that United are now too far “down the road” to renege on the complete support they’ve shown Amorim so far this summer, and must continue backing their manager to the hilt.

Old Trafford ‘movement’ expected as Amorim swings axe

Amorim’s authority on decision-making at United has already been made clear after he pulled the plug on a behind-the-scenes documentary being filmed at Old Trafford which would’ve brought in £10million.

Tyrell Malacia could be the next of Amorim’s five out-of-favour players to leave this summer, but both his and Rashford’s wage demands have effectively ended the chances of either sealing permanent exits.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track, Robinson was asked if Man United will continue to give Amorim full autonomy over their squad rebuild after the departure of Rashford, and who will follow him out the door.

“He’s fallen out with a few players, Amorim, hasn’t he?”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“He’s gone in there, been heavily backed, and they’re going to have to stick with their manager now, Manchester United. They’ve gone a long way down the road.

“He’s been allowed to shift players out of the dressing room – Marcus Rashford, for example, that he didn’t want – there’s going to be so much movement at Old Trafford.”

Man United moves hard to come by for Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’

Although Barcelona have agreed to pay all of Rashford’s £300,000-per-week wages once he completes his loan move, it’s unclear if they’ll trigger an option to buy or send him back to Amorim at Old Trafford.

Robinson had also tipped Malacia to be a hit at Celtic if he completes a loan move of his own, but that’s only likely to happen if Man United subsidise his wages – a problem which has become all too common.

With Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho also stuck in limbo and picking up massive wages along the way, it’s clear that shifting their plethora of out-of-favour players will be much easier said than done this summer.
