‘Man United have no respect’ as ‘stupid’ £40m Jarrad Branthwaite bid submitted

Man United are in financial difficulty in this summer window after failing to qualify for any form of European football for the 2025-26 campaign.

The Red Devils are expected to sell some first-team players – with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and more set to quit Old Trafford.

United have completed a deal for Matheus Cunha this month but may need to part with their own players before sealing any further signings.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted Man United will get a taste of their own medicine this summer after making “stupid” offers for Jarrad Branthwaite last summer.

The Red Devils made bids of around £40-50million for Branthwaite – but Everton resisted the interest and the defender remains on Merseyside.

Man United ‘making silly offers’ is set to come back around, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted clubs will make “silly offers” for United players this summer after years of bad faith negotiating at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s side finished 15th in the 2024-25 campaign and lost in the Europa League final against Tottenham.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s also a fundamental issue I’ve got with Man United at the moment.

“Last season they tried to get Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton and they were making stupid offers around about £40-50million.

“I don’t know who it is that’s making these deals at Man United, but look, I’ve done over 200 transfers in my career and I’ve been involved in it.

“When clubs come in with you with ridiculous offers straight away, you can’t form a relationship with them. You don’t trust them ever again.

“In this business, you’ve got to stay close with people and you try and have respect for each other and you form, you understand how they operate and you try and do the right deal for each club, of course, but you don’t make ridiculous offers and make the other club try and make them look stupid.

“You don’t forget these things and so you don’t want to deal with clubs coming around again.

“When Man United now are making silly offers like that to try and acquire players, they’re going to find the shoes on the other foot now.

“Clubs are going to make silly offers for their players as they know that they’re squeezed for cash.”

Man United push to sign World Cup winner

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 June) that Man United are still pushing to agree a deal with Aston Villa over goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Sources say United have been in regular contact with the 32-year-old and are “ringing him every day” to get a deal over the line in the coming weeks.

However, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 19 June that Martinez has his heart set on Atletico Madrid, who recently joined the race for his signature.
