Man United heading for ‘absolute disaster’ after source update on new manager appointment – pundit

Man United are heading for “an absolute disaster” with the appointment of an interim manager until the end of the season, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, fears the club will be “railroaded” into appointing the interim permanently if they do well.

In a statement confirming the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the club revealed they are looking to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.

Michael Carrick is currently taking care of first-team duties and guided the Red Devils to a 2-0 win at Villarreal yesterday.

A United source told Football Insider (23rd November) that ex-players Steve Bruce and Laurent Blanc are potential candidates for the interim role.

Robinson urged United to “flex their muscles” and go after their top manager target now.

“It would be an absolute disaster if Man United appoint an interim manager,” he told Football Insider.

“We are talking about the biggest club in the world, appointing another interim manager. Have we not been here before?

“What if this interim manager comes in, gets to the final of the Champions League and secures fourth spot in the Premier League? Do you appoint him permanently like Solskjaer? They could force their own hand in that situation.

“This is Manchester United. Go and flex your muscles and try and get a manager that you want.

“Michael Carrick is a good coach and a great person but he is in a similar mould to Solskjaer. He is not a world-class manager. Look at Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. United need a manager of that ilk.

“I just cannot understand why United would put an interim manager in charge when they could be railroaded into giving him the job permanently at the end of the season. Don’t write off half of a season with an interim in charge.”
