Man United in ‘unusual territory’ after Frenkie de Jong twist reported – Robinson
Paul Robinson has claimed Man United are in “unusual territory” with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong reluctant to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said players would previously jump at the chance to join the Red Devils.
Man United are in the market for at least one new centre-midfielder ahead of next season.

Erik ten Hag has identified his former Ajax player De Jong, 25, as the ideal addition to United’s midfield but the Netherlands international has publicly stated that he wants to stay at the Nou Camp.
However, according to Spanish publication Sport (5 June), there is a renewed belief that a deal can be done after the latest contact between the two parties.
De Jong’s contract runs until the end of June 2026.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “It is a very hard deal to do.
“It is unusual territory for Manchester United. Typically, when United come knocking players want to join. They’d walk there in the past.
“It shows where the club is now that players are reluctant to join. If Barcelona say he can go and he refuses it says a lot.

“De Jong’s relationship with Ten Hag may help the situation. He may be able to persuade him.
“You do question whether it is the right move though if the player doesn’t really want to come.”
