Man United ‘lose patience’ with Ruben Amorim amid sack decision update – ‘it’s just not working’

Man United chiefs are losing patience with Ruben Amorim as he remains at risk of being sacked, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the club could soon be left with a major decision to make.

Following Man United’s 3-0 defeat to Man City, fresh questions are being asked of the manager’s position given their lack of clear progress under his leadership.

Amorim has led Man United to their worst Premier League start since the 1992-93 season, and has already seen his side knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

His refusal to adapt his style has been labelled “madness”, with time running out for the manager to prove he can lead the club in the right direction.

Ruben Amorim under threat of sack at Man United

Brown told Football Insider on 7 September that Amorim’s position at Man United is under threat and key clashes against Man City and Chelsea could prove decisive.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Old Trafford, has insisted that the boss’ refusal to change his system will result in his dismissal.

They’re losing patience with him now,” he told Football Insider.

“Everybody’s been very understanding and ready to support him and his ideas, but it’s getting to a point where they’re not making any clear progress.

“If you keep doing the same thing, and getting the same result, it’s the definition of madness.

“The way Man United are playing in this system doesn’t work for them, it hasn’t ever worked for them and there’s no evidence it ever will at this point.

“It’s not just because they lost to Man City, that’s neither here nor there at this stage, it’s about the quality of what they do and the way they perform.

“If he wants to play in this way, and he’s adamant he won’t make any changes, it’s not going to get any better than it has been already.

“It gets to a point where the club might be left with one decision and that’s to look elsewhere.

“They’re reluctant to do it so it’s not something that’s imminent, but then you have to ask how long they leave it before it becomes obvious it isn’t working.”

Amorim faces Man United sack after ‘imminent’ vedict

A serious decision on Amorim’s future is not expected to be “imminent” with the board remaining keen to stick by the manager despite their concerns.

However, with Man United legends turning on Amorim and widespread criticism from those within the game, Sir Jim Ratcliffe may soon be forced to intervene.

United currently sit 14th in the Premier League with one win after four games, while the manager has picked up just eight wins since taking over in November 2024.

Man United fans have called for Amorim to be sacked following the defeat to City, with no end to the tough run of games as they face Chelsea up next.

Should results fail to take a turn in the Red Devils’ favour, pressure on the boss will continue to grow not just from the stands but also in the United boardroom.
