Man United missed out on a ‘consistent’ Premier League star who ‘does everything’
Ruben Amorim’s fortunes at Old Trafford could have been different had he had one Premier League star in his squad.
Amorim is under mounting pressure at Man United after a 15th placed Premier League finish last season and a rocky start to the new campaign.
Man United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland leaves the Red Devils in 10th position during the international break before they face champions Liverpool.
Five new signings were made during the summer, but one player previously slipped through the net which could have strengthened Amorim’s squad.

Man United missed out on Liverpool star Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo has admitted that he could have joined Man United over Liverpool during the summer of 2022.
Instead then Man United manager Erik ten Hag signed winger Antony who has since joined Real Betis.
Joe Cole, as per TNT Sports, said Gakpo “does everything” and speaking to Sky Sports, [10 October], Ashley Williams believe Man United will be regretting not signing the 26-year-old.
“What a consistent performer, what a hard worker, humble guy, it would have been interesting to have seen how he would’ve worked out in that Man United team,” Williams said.
“If I was a Man United fan I’d be kicking myself thinking aargh we didn’t get him because I think he’s the type of player you’d put him anywhere, in any team and he raises the level of the team.
“He [Gakpo] will be thinking he made the right choice now with a Premier League medal.”
Gakpo may be a problem for Liverpool right now, but the Dutchman has two goals and two assists in 10 appearances this season.
Where would Gakpo have fitted at Man United?
Whilst Gakpo would have been signed under ten Hag, the forward may have had a problem fitting into Amorim’s 3-5-2 system.
Gakpo predominantly plays wide left for Liverpool, but he would have had to have adapted to fit into a more central position at Old Trafford.

He would though have added to Amorim’s options behind Benjamin Sesko, and goal threat with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha having only scored one goal between them this season.
