Man United ‘multi-million’ deal could flop badly – Kieran Maguire

The documentary between Man United and Disney is “intriguing” but may fail to connect with an American audience.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that United will have to rely on nostalgia as they have failed to deliver success in the last decade.

As reported by The Athletic, United and Disney are in talks over a “multi-million pound” documentary deal.

The series is expected to cover Sir Alex Ferguson’s era at the club and the success of the Class of 92.

United will become the latest Premier League club to strike a documentary deal after recent series produced by Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United all shared success.

Man United documentary may fail after ‘multi-million’ deal

Maguire believes that United’s lack of recent success means they will have to rely on nostalgia which might fail to resonate with overseas audiences.

I think the Disney deal with Manchester United will be intriguing,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

However, I think a lot of it will involve old news because Manchester United haven’t delivered success now for a decade.

So presumably, Disney will be wanting to utilise Sir Alex Ferguson and the class of 92 as much as they can to add nostalgia.

However, whether that will find a lot of interest with an American audience I’m not sure.

They will have to hope that Disney can sprinkle stardust on a failing club.
