Man United told to pull the plug on Matheus Cunha deal after twist
Man United are reportedly among the potential suitors for Wolves star Matheus Cunha ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Brazil international has made no secret of his desire to leave Molineux despite signing a new contract running until June 2029 just months ago.
Cunha, 25, will be available for a release clause of £62.5million in the off-season.
The Athletic reported on 11 April that Man United are considering a move for the Wolves star – who has hit 14 Premier League goals this season.
But Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has cast doubt on the potential deal ahead of the summer window.
Cunha is ‘not the right fit’ for Man United, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested Cunha would be another “false nine” for Man United and is “not the right fit”.
Joshua Zirkzee was signed last summer (2024) and has come in for criticism for failing to lead the line effectively this season.

Wyness claimed a deal for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap would be more sensible with funds set to be stretched thin at Old Trafford this summer.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s like Man United have got this predilection to sign these false nines and ball-players rather than out-and-out number nines.
“They’ve had a few proper strikers, including Cantona, but they’ve gone away from that.
“Cunha fits the bill of a false nine yet again. There’s no doubt he’s a huge talent, but I don’t think it’s the right fit when they could be going after an out-and-out striker.
“Delap has been linked, and certainly that would be the type of player who would be important.
“Cunha coming in would depend on who they can get out.
“Amorim’s had a chance to look at everyone, he knows who he likes, who he doesn’t – and they’ll have to get some sales going.
“Cunha may be a luxury signing. If they get rid of a few in his position, he could come in – but at that price, United have to think carefully.”

10 Man United stars could leave this summer
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (15 April) that Man United could let up to 10 first-team stars leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
United chiefs have a long-term project in mind and will give Amorim time and transfer backing to improve the situation.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony and Tyrell Malacia are on loan spells elsewhere and will be sold to raise all-important transfer funds this summer.
