Kieran Maguire rubbishes Man United ‘myth’ as £600m announcement on the cards
Richard Arnold is talking nonsense – Man United are still more than capable of going blow for blow in the transfer market with the world’s biggest clubs.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ gargantuan spending power.
United CEO Richard Arnold was secretly filmed when he recently met members of The 1958 supporters group to discuss concerns about the club’s trajectory.

Per The Athletic last Sunday (19 June), he claimed that he is “not getting the investment [he needs]” to reinstate United as one of football’s best sides.
United’s revenue fell behind Man City’s for the first time ever in 2020-21 and they have now not won the Premier League for eight years.
But Maguire anticipates that United could announce revenues of £600million next time around and that this is more than enough to facilitate blue-chip transfer spending.
“I think this is a myth,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“United will still be generating revenues in excess of £600m. But he doesn’t want to commit himself and he will have known that the meeting was being recorded. He’s not naive.
“What he doesn’t want to do is publicly come out and say that.

“Since Sir Alex retired, United have spent £1.45bn. If they sign De Jong, that will take it to £1.5bn.
“What is also noticeable is tht they have not been able to generate money from player sales. They have got a new manager coming in and you would expect him to be backed. But Arnold has got to dampen down expectations.”
