Man United naming rights deal on the cards as huge windfall secured – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has backed Snapdragon to buy naming rights for Man United’s new stadium after extending their sponsorship agreement.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the extension is “good news” for United as it brings “stability” in a financially tricky time.

As per The Athletic (9 August), Snapdragon are set to take the option to extend their sponsorship with Man United by two years – which will be worth an extra £120million to the Red Devils.

The semiconductor company already holds naming rights for a multi-use stadium in San Diego and is a partner for the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team.

Recent reports (via The Telegraph, 29 July) have revealed a United task force has initially concluded the best option would be the creation of a new 100,000-seat stadium.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (14 August) that Man United could earn up to £50million a year on a naming rights deal if they decide to build the new stadium.

Snapdragon could take Man United naming rights after £120m extension, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s great for the club.

“I still don’t understand the logic for Snapdragon. It’s a branding play, but I would have thought there were better ways to drive sales and brand recognition.

“Nevertheless, it’s good news for United. It’s a balance they can look forward to.

“They’ve got stability moving forward on the naming rights as well, it’s an established relationship.

“We could see Snapdragon Old Trafford, we’ll have to wait and see.”
