Man United news: Erik ten Hag makes surprise Antony decision – sources

Erik ten Hag still believes in Man United winger Antony and is a big fan of the Brazillian, sources have told Football Insider.

Ten Hag refuses to budge in his defence of the 24-year-old despite his poor performances in the 2023-24 campaign.

INEOS’ recent investment has meant big recruitment plans are in place at Old Trafford – but the Dutchman still believes there is a place for Antony in the squad.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Ten Hag’s future could determine whether Antony stays or goes.

The Dutchman, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain after INEOS’ takeover, was central to signing the winger in 2022 after their time together at Ajax.

Antony still backed by Man United boss – but he could be sold after potential Ten Hag sack

Speaking recently, the Man United boss insisted: “I’m sure he will do for the future, I’m sure he is resilient, he is a character and he will fight back and I back him.”

Ten Hag’s staunch stance on Antony’s future comes as a surprise with Man United fans and pundits blasting his performances this term.

He has scored just one goal and contributed one assist in 27 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.
