Man United news: Five stars give Ruben Amorim ‘big’ problem – Insider
Ruben Amorim is facing a selection dilemma at Man United with three big names making comebacks and two more edging closer, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the new boss has yet to figure out his best starting XI with players returning from injuries.
The Red Devils cruised to a resounding 4-0 win against Everton on Sunday (1 December) thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee.
However, Brown explained that the boss will have to rotate his different options while still being able to win games and make progress.
It has been said that there are significant areas of the team which Amorim is still looking to experiment with different options given the depth of his squad.
The likes of Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have recently returned from injuries, while Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro are still on the treatment table.
As a result, the manager is expected to continue rotating his options to figure out the best players for each position before he can settle on a first-choice starting XI.
Ruben Amorim facing selection ‘problem’ after Man United twist
Figuring out a regular starting XI will be the key to finding consistency at Old Trafford – something they have struggled with in recent years.
Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and also spent time at the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham, explained that the selection issues have caused a “problem” which Amorim must solve.
“His big problem is, he doesn’t know his best team is and five senior players are heading back,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s a bit of a problem because he’s got to win games while trying to figure it out.
“It’s not his fault that he hasn’t been able to do that yet because he’s got to try things, but we’re already seeing improvements in certain players.
“He’s getting players back who haven’t been available for a while as well.
“The likes of Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are both back, but then you’ve got players like Harry Maguire who will start coming back in the next few weeks.
“But some of them will need two or three games to get back up to full fitness.

“So he’s got to find some consistency in results while he works towards finding more consistency in his starting XI, if that’s possible.
“It’s difficult, but that’s what happens when you take over half-way though the season.”
