Man United news: Four-year Ratcliffe scheme could crash and burn – Kieran Maguire
A multi-club network involving Man United could fail if Sir Jim Ratcliffe does not get the right structure and staff in place.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that other multi-club organisations within the Premier League have failed.
As revealed by HITC, INEOS are exploring the business that can be done between Manchester United and Nice ahead of the summer’s transfer window.
Ratcliffe’s company controls a majority stake in both clubs and could look to form a multi-club network with Manchester United at the helm.
A similar strategy has been employed at Man City, who spearhead the City Football Group – a network that now includes 13 different clubs.
As revealed by Football Insider, CFG made record revenue of £877million in 2022-23 but also suffered losses of £127million.
Man United issued stern warning over multi-club model under Ratcliffe
Maguire explained that success for a Man United multi-club model will depend on whether Ratcliffe hires the right people in the right places.
“If done properly, then yes a multi-club network could be very beneficial for Man United,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“However, we’ve seen other multi-club networks not be successful such as those operating under John Textor and 777 Partners.
“It’s not the model that’s important, it’s the people who are involved in terms of applying the model to make sure that there is consistency.
“It doesn’t always work unless they manage to get a joined-up thinking with other clubs such as Nice.

“So United will have to get the right people in the right positions for it to succeed.
“I think that we’re probably talking three to four years before you could start to see its benefits.“
