Man United news: Keith Wyness slams ‘completely wrong’ Scott McTominay sale

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted financial rules forcing Man United to sell the likes of Scott McTominay is “completely wrong”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) are a “mess”.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville hit out at “the most bizarre transfer window” and claimed the likes of Man United and Newcastle have been forced to sell players.

McTominay, Hannibal, Willy Kambwala, Mason Greenwood and Álvaro Carreras were among the homegrown stars to leave United permanently in the summer.

Under PSR rules, fees for homegrown stars are counted as pure profit and can be used to offset a club’s loss for the season.

PSR rules must be ‘redrafted urgently’ after Man United sales, says Wyness

Wyness insisted the rules need to be “redrafted urgently”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I totally agree with Gary Neville.

“The rules are completely wrong, they’re badly drafted.

“Having to sell academy players is the wrong way for it all to be happening, it’s a mess.

“I think they’ve got to be redrafted urgently.

“This is another example of the Premier League creating another problem in another area by trying to fix something else entirely.

“It’s got to be sorted.”
