Man United news: La Liga expert issues ‘big’ Raphael Varane claim after manager’s reveal
Kevin Campbell expects a “big improvement” from Man United defender Raphael Varane next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, pointed the finger at the Red Devils’ midfield when discussing Varane’s struggles.
Varane moved to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in a £41million deal in August 2021.

However, the centre-half has failed to meet expectations during his first season in the Premier League.
Injuries have limited the France international to just 22 league appearances this term.
As quoted by GFFN (19 May), France manager Didier Deschamps confessed Varane has “not been at his best” and is not in his “happiest period.”
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Varane’s first season at Old Trafford, Campbell said: “Sometimes centre-backs need a midfield.
“A lot of the time the midfield protect them. Man United’s midfield have been poor this season.
“One player cannot make a whole difference to the team. Ronaldo had a great season but not even he could stop the rot.
“United will be better next season under Erik ten Hag.
“I expect a big improvement from Varane as well. He will be a better player with a year under his belt. In general, they will be a lot better next season.”

Varane has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season.
His contract runs until the end of June 2025.
