Man United news: Mauricio Pochettino could have ‘sizeable funds’ this summer after update

Kevin Phillips is adamant Mauricio Pochettino could “get the best out of” the underperforming players at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker backed the 49-year-old to win trophies at Old Trafford if appointed their next permanent manager.

According to the Mirror (5 February), Pochettino could replace interim boss Ralf Rangnick in the dugout this summer.

The ex-Tottenham manager is said to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s preferred choice to take over.

Pochettino’s position at Paris Saint-Germain is under major scrutiny after an inconsistent year at the club.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the latest, Phillips said: “I don’t know where I sit with it.

“The Premier League is completely different to France.

“Manchester United are used to winning trophies. Pochettino failed to win trophies at Tottenham but he moulded them into a brilliant side.

Man United

“I think he would do well at United. He would have access to sizeable funds so he’d be able to shape the squad how he wanted. He didn’t have that at Spurs. That free rein could bring results.

“He is clearly a manager who gets the best out of players. He proved that at Tottenham. If he went to Manchester United, given the calibre of player that is already there, he will win trophies. It would make a lot of sense to me.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Man United have done ‘incredibly well’ after a £20million deal was agreed last week.
