Man United news: Pundit dispels Cristiano Ronaldo myth after alarming reveal - 'I was surprised'

Kevin Campbell has claimed Man United would be in mid-table had they not signed Cristiano Ronaldo last summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the Red Devils would be “nowhere near where they are now” without the 37-year-old’s goals.

Ronaldo scored his 100th career Premier League goal in a 3-1 loss at Arsenal on Saturday.

Ronaldo has been widely referred to as ‘a problem’ since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus last summer.

When asked if Ronaldo’s problematic status is a myth, Campbell told Football Insider: “Without Ronaldo, I don’t know where United would be.

‘They would not be anywhere near where they are now.

“Let’s be honest, he has won games single-handedly for them in the Premier League and the Champions League. Where would they be without him?

“He looked sharp against Arsenal and took his goal well after such a difficult time with his family. It must have been so hard.

“The goal was typical Ronaldo. I was surprised he didn’t take the penalty though. I’m pretty sure United would be mid-table without him.”

Ronaldo has scored 22 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign – no United player has scored more.

His contract at Old Trafford runs until the end of June 2023, with the option of another 12 months.
