Man United news: ‘Upset and angry’ Cristiano Ronaldo tipped to quit after talks reported

Kevin Phillips expects Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Man United at the end of the season if he doesn’t feature prominently in the next manager’s plans.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner suggested the 37-year-old regrets retuning to Old Trafford in a decision “driven by his heart.”

According to The Sun (16 February), Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and AS Roma have expressed an interest in Ronaldo ahead of the summer.

The Portugal captain’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have held talks with new United CEO Richard Arnold over the club’s poor form.

Ronaldo put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Old Trafford in the summer.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Ronaldo’s future, Phillips said: “Ronaldo’s future depends on the next manager for me.

“Does Ronaldo fit into the new manager’s plan?

“The decision to go back to Manchester United was driven by his heart. You can only imagine the amount of goals he would have scored at Manchester City this season. I think he’d have scored around 30.

“You can see how frustrated, upset and angry he is with the players around him at times. If he had his time again, would he go back? I would question that.

“The incoming manager will have an important say on Ronaldo’s future. Does he fit into his plans? If not I can see him and Cavani leaving at the end of the season.”
