Man United outrage as Amorim pulls ‘ridiculous’ Rashford move at Arsenal

Ruben Amorim has been branded “ridiculous” for dropping his in-form players such as Marcus Rashford from his Man United side for their clash with Arsenal, by Clinton Morrison.

The Red Devils go into the game looking to build on the 39-year-old’s excellent first Premier League win over Everton at the weekend in Wednesday night’s game (4th December).

However, the new manager has still made six changes to his side from that 4-0 thrashing of the Toffees.

Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund have all come into the starting XI.

The suspended Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo, as well as Amad Diallo, Casemiro, and Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee – who both scored twice against Everton – have all dropped out.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Special, Morrison was asked about the decision to drop the likes of Rashford, Zirkzee and Amad, with the former Crystal Palace striker saying (7:19pm): “I don’t know, he must think he’s playing a computer game when he keeps changing the team.

“It’s ridiculous. It feels like every player is on trial at the moment. Rashford has just scored two goals and everyone’s talking about ‘he’s in bad form’. Against Arsenal go and play him.

“You’re not going to have the ball a lot and you’re going to play on the counter-attack. He’s got the pace to cause problems.

After questioning why Zirkzee has been dropped as well he added: “That to me is a defensive team. He’s saying ‘I’m worried about Arsenal’.”

Football Insider Opinion

It certainly feels like a major gamble for the Red Devils boss to make this many changes for a game as big as this one.

Many of those who have been taken out by Amorim made big impacts against Everton, with Rashford and Zirkzee on the scoresheet and Diallo also coming in for praise having been a creator in chief.

By contrast, it has been a tougher time for some of those coming into the side, such as Tyrell Malacia, who struggled in his last appearance against Bodo/Glimt, his first in well over a year after injury.

Tyrell Malacia is back in the side for Man United at Arsenal.

As a result, Man United may be both leaving themselves vulnerable in defence, and without some key outlets in attack against an in-form Arsenal team.

It may also impact the mindset of some players, who might be wondering why they have been dropped after impressing so much at the weekend.

All of that makes this a big call for Amorim to make already in his time with the club, and there will be plenty of questions for him to answer if this ends badly for Man United.
