Man United plot stunning Victor Osimhen move – ‘keep an eye on this’
Man United are plotting a move to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as an alternative to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Gyokeres, 26, remains the first-choice option but the deal could be difficult to pull off.
Brown explained that there are concerns about the Sweden international’s price-tag which have put the Red Devils off of a move as things stand.
Instead, they are assessing a number of alternative options, and Osimhen is a name which has been brought up internally on a number of occasions.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan with the Turkish giants, but a break clause in his contract would facilitate a mid-season move should Napoli receive an acceptable offer.
There is also a belief that the deal would be more likely to take place come the summer, when the forward returns to Napoli and United have more money to spend.
Man United plot deal to sign Victor Osimhen after Gyokeres twist
Osimhen has been the target of a number of English clubs after Football Insider revealed that Arsenal are exploring the option of a late-January move for the Nigeria international.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that the striker is also on United’s radar and they could move to rival Arsenal’s interest.
“Man United are aware of the type of striker they want to sign,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve got a list of their priority options to fill that position, then the decision will be made.
“To Gyokeres’ credit, he went abroad and took his opportunity and I’ve got nothing but respect for how hard he has worked to develop his game.
“But we’ve got to a point now where, because he’s so important for Sporting, he’s going to cost a huge price tag to bring him back to England.
“When you look at the money United have spent on Zirkzee and Hojlund, more than £100million, I’m not sure they can go and spend the sort of money they want for Gyokeres.
“So then United will turn their attention to some of their other targets who might be available.
“One of those, I’ve heard, will be Osimhen. He’s one they’ve been keeping an eye on.

“It might be another expensive one, but that will have to be decided at the club and with Napoli, and then maybe it’s more likely to happen in the summer.
“That’s the issue at the moment, it’s looking like wherever they go, it would be easier to do in the summer.”
