‘Man United pursuit of Marcus Thuram faces collapse from the inside’

Man United have seen their potential summer transfer plans for Inter’s Marcus Thuram suffer an early blow following the latest update.

This has been a dismal campaign for the Red Devils which has underlined their need to strengthen their squad in a number of areas once the transfer market reopens, including at centre-forward.

Following a season where he has badly struggled for goals, Rasmus Hojlund is already losing the patience of senior figures at Man United.

Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has also endured some difficult moments at Old Trafford over the course of the campaign.

There has therefore been a growing emphasis on the club to sign a more reliable source of goals for next season, although it appears one of those may already be out of reach.

Omar Berrada issues emerges around Marcus Thuram

The appointment of Omar Berrada as chief executive at Man United last summer raised eyebrows among some given his links with Man City, and it appears it could now prove costly for the club in one sense.

According to a report from The Sun, the Red Devils are big fans of Inter striker Thuram, who has been in excellent form this season.

His goals have helped the Serie A side to ensure they are just a point behind leader Napoli heading into the final game of the league season, while they have also reached the Champions League final.

From a Man United perspective though, it is noted that a deal would be difficult for them to complete, as Thuram’s agent does not get on well with Berrada.

As a result, it looks as though the internal situation at Old Trafford may well prevent them from completing a deal for the 27-year-old, so their focus must be directed towards the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap.

Man United to rue new striker update

Football Insider Verdict

Obviously, you cannot say the Red Devils have made a mistake in appointing Berrada purely because it means this deal may not materialise.

It is inevitable in football that not everyone is going to see eye to eye, and there is more to a role than simply overseeing on transfer deal such as this.

Even so, it will be frustrating for Man United that they look set to miss out on a deal for a striker such as Thuram.

Omar Berrada could have a big impact at Man United this summer

The France international has both the scoring record and top level experience to suggest he is someone who could have helped rectify their problems in front of goal.

That being said, there is a question of whether Thuram would actually have wanted to make the move to Old Trafford this summer, given the problematic position Man United are currently in.

Indeed, Football Insider reported earlier this season that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all interested in Thuram.

As a result, it may have been difficult for Man United to get this deal, even if there were no issues between Berrada and the striker’s agent.
