Man United reach deadline day agreement to sign goalkeeper on five-year deal, player travelling for medical now
Manchester United have agreed a deal with Royal Antwerp to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day.
Amid recent goalkeeping errors made by both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, Man United have identified Lammens as a suitable number one.
The 23-year-old maintained 10 clean sheets in 41 Belgian top-flight appearances last season, helping Stef Wils’ side to a fifth-place finish.
Meanwhile, Man United had also targeted a move for Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, who was absent as Unai Emery’s men were thrashed 3-0 by Crystal Palace on Sunday, 31 August.

Man United agree deal to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp
After being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town, Ruben Amorim’s men bounced back with a Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday, 30 August.
However, the Old Trafford club’s 3-2 victory over the Clarets was not enough to convince Amorim to stick with his current goalkeepers.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed via X on Monday, 1 September: “Manchester United reach total agreement with Royal Antwerp to sign Senne Lammens.”
Ornstein’s report added that Lammens is set to sign a five-year deal with the North West side.
Ruben Amorim needs Senne Lammens to be a success
Football Insider verdict
Amorim has plenty of problems on his hands after steering the Red Devils to a lowly finish in the Premier League last season, but perhaps he has no bigger issue than that of the goalkeeper spot.
Man United’s last three results | All competitions 2025/26 |
Fulham (A) | 1-1 D |
Grimsby (A) | 2-2 D (Grimsby won 12-11 on penalties) |
Burnley (H) | 3-2 W |
Bayindir’s error was responsible for the fact that Man United were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in their first top-flight game of the campaign, while Onana performed poorly against Grimsby.
Amorim has worked hard to rectify the Old Trafford outfit’s attacking issues by signing Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha this summer.
Sesko has endured a poor start to his Man United career, taking the 10th penalty in their shootout defeat to Grimsby, despite being a striker.
The fact that the former RB Leipzig man has endured a slow start to life for Amorim’s side makes it even more important that Lammens is a success at the other end of the pitch.
Man United need Lammens to perform to help them enjoy a significantly better Premier League season than the one they endured last term.
