Man United ready to finalise Kobbie Mainoo deal after transfer U-turn
Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has forced his way back into the picture at Old Trafford after slipping down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.
It was believed Mainoo could leave Man United in the January transfer window as he looked to secure regular first-team football.
However, Mainoo is now a big part of Man United’s plans after Amorim’s exit was confirmed last month.
The Old Trafford academy product has started in all three games since Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season.
Man United secured a 3-2 victory over Fulham on Sunday (1 February), ensuring Carrick has a 100 per cent record at the start of his second spell in charge of the club.

Why Man United could be forced to pay extra in Kobbie Mainoo deal
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he expects Man United to agree a new contract with Mainoo following his return to the first-team picture.
Mainoo’s deal at Old Trafford is set to expire in June 2027, but the Manchester giants have an option to extend it by a further year.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Man United agreeing a new contract with the 20-year-old, Borson said: “Well, especially when you see him play the way that he has, I think that will be a reminder to everybody.
“I think they have made offers, but I don’t think they’ve been able to get it over the line. He’s probably on a relatively low salary compared to some of the other players that they brought in.

“I’d expect them to agree a contract before a new manager is in. I would think that the Amorim block will go, and they will not take any chances with it, even if it means paying slightly more than they probably would have wanted to.”
Mainoo backed for England recall after stunning Man United twist
Mainoo failed to start a single Premier League game under Amorim this season, but his situation has drastically changed since Carrick’s arrival.
The midfielder, who has so far played every minute under Carrick, has built up a strong partnership in recent weeks with Casemiro.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Mainoo could be in line for an England recall if he continues his strong form at Old Trafford over the coming weeks.
Although the Man United star is yet to be selected in one of Thomas Tuchel’s squads, he previously made 10 international appearances under Gareth Southgate.
